Exploring Excavation Services

Hello, my name is Brad Nabier. Welcome to my site about excavation services. I enjoy watching work crews use excavators and dump trucks to shape the land for the intended buildings. Excavation crews dig out holes for foundations or flatten the land to ready it for new home construction. Commercial sites are often prepared in the same way, but on a grander scale. I would like to discuss the different types of equipment used on these work sites. I will also share information about operation and maintenance of that equipment. Furthermore, I may even explore various building regulations surrounding dirt work. I hope you visit my site often.

Before Using Cranes, Do These Tasks

The rented cranes you're using for your latest construction project allow you to move a variety of heavy loads around the site. However, some attention must be paid to certain issues beforehand if you want things to proceed in a way that is efficient and safe. Get the following tasks done before you use any cranes.

Test Soil

To be safe, make sure that the soil on your site is stable enough for all the cranes you've rented. If you aren't certain that the soil can handle the weight of such heavy equipment, you may find yourself dealing with shifting soil and possible cave-ins. Send a small sample of the work site's soil off to a local lab to have it analyzed for compactness and strength. Once you get results, you can then start planning crane work.

Have a Plan for Loading

Having heavy equipment like cranes onsite can mean that other work has to be delayed while the cranes are in operation. To get work done without wasting too much time, you need to have a solid load plan in mind before your rental cranes arrive. Know what has to be lifted, ensure that the land is cleared where the load needs to be delivered and ensure that the path of the crane is known to everyone so they can avoid the area if necessary. The plan will enable you and your workers to prepare for the cranes so that the actual job can be done in a timely way.

Schedule Inspections

One of the things most important to do with your cranes is to inspect them and ensure that nothing is damaged or out of place. You may imagine the rental company has already done this, and it is likely that they have, but each day that you're using the cranes on your own site you should still be checking for possible problems. Checking hydraulic capabilities, lift mechanisms and cables for a few moments before each day of work can prevent serious injuries and damage, so it is worth it to make these inspections an automatic part of the day.

Make an Emergency Plan

Even if you have prepared and done everything correctly, accidents could still happen. That's why it's essential to have an emergency plan and to share it with everyone on the work site. Determine how workers should react if they anticipate a problem or if items fall out of the load. Figure out how you'll communicate with everyone and secure the scene. A good plan could mean less injuries and damage overall.

With the tips here, crane operation can take place much more smoothly. Keep checking in with others on site to ensure that the machines work well. You may want to find out if the crane rental service can offer additional guidance. Contact a business such as A C Jones Trucking Inc for more information.
